I am sorry I overlooked Penelope's on previous trips to the Downtown Market! The Greek crêpe was tasty, jam-packed with fresh veggies, Kalamata olives, and savory Feta. The flavor and consistency of the made-to-order crêpe was on point and actually better than I expected. I will definitely be a return customer.

Love this place! They have delicious savory and sweet crepes. We spoke with the owner who used to sell crepes on the street in Greece! I don't have any complaints about this place! I love getting the handheld crepes :)

Meeting friends for lunch. Everyone is trying something different from the many restaurants in Downtown Market. My choice is Penelope's Creperie and it was all I could do not to cut to the chase with a dessert crepe. So I had the BLT crepe and it's very tasty, fast service. Love this place!

My hubs and I visited Grand Rapids a couple weeks ago, and on our list of places to go was the Downtown Market! We came hungry and after perusing the eateries, we decided to get crepes. The menu was fairly extensive, offering both sweet and savory crepes. We each ordered a s'mores crepe, which was filled with Nutella, marshmallow, and graham crackers, and then topped with a TON of whipped cream, chocolate syrups, and powdered sugar. When we received them, they were served on styrofoam plates, and the crepe and its toppings were so overloaded that it made it hard to (a) eat, because there was so much on the plate, and (b) cut through without cutting into the plate. We could have easily shared just one crepe because it was so rich I only ate half of mine. The crepe itself was good, but WAY sugary with all the toppings. It would have honestly been way better without all the extra sugar! The woman making it asked if it was "to walk around with or to sit down with" and now I know what she meant by that. If I went back, I would try one of the savory crepes, or ask for the crepe "to walk around with" to avoid the extra stuff.

I really liked this creperie. They have a large selection of both savory and sweet crepes, which is nice, because I'm definitely more of a savory fan. I chose the pesto crepe, which has Parmesan, mixed greens, tomato, chicken and pesto. It was really good! The flavors all went well together, and nothing was overpowering. My friend had the breakfast crepe and enjoyed it. These crepes make a really great light dinner. You can also get salads and Greek yogurt parfaits. They have a cute little store area where you can buy imported products. The only thing I would change, really, is the fact that they use styrofoam plates - not very easy for cutting into a crepe (if you're sitting down to eat), and definitely not environmentally friendly!

Not sure how long Penelope's has been at the Market but it wasn't here the last time I was in town so it was new to me. Wandering around the market I was drawn to go back to the places I had already dined and enjoyed but I decided that time time around I should try all new places so to Penelope's I went. They're a creperie which obviously has its roots in France but this place takes it a Greek/Mediterranean direction. They have sweet and savory crepes that fall into the more "traditional" category that you usually see at crepe stands (strawberry and nutella, chicken pesto) but they also add things like Baklava (honey, walnuts, pistachios, cinnamon) and the Greek (feta, tomato, kalamata olives, green pepper, red onion, and Greek olive oil). In sum there are nearly two dozen crepe options to choose from (including seasonal offerings like pumpkin and turkey apple). I was feeling breakfasty so I went with the aptly titled "breakfast"--cheddar, scramble eggs, bacon, tomato, green peppers, Greek olive oil. It wasn't what I was expecting and I don't mean that in a bad way at all. Every time I've previously had an egg crepe it's been pretty egg heavy. Like, a ton of eggs, a sprinkling of cheese, a few bacon strips/pieces, etc. This one was a good balance of all the ingredients (although the cheese seemed to be the anchor). The Greek olive oil added that med edge that they seem to seek out. It's not just olive oil, it's also got some herbs (oregano?) in the mix that add an extra boost of flavor. I wasn't expecting that but I liked it! Also the crepes are all hand held. This kind of rules if you're on the run and don't want to mess with the formality of a plate/fork. But be careful by because it may leak bit towards the end. Adding to their Greek influence is a variety of imported Greek foodstuffs for purchase--candies, almond and sesame bars, honey, olive oil, kalamata olives, etc. Plus a few Mediterranean salad options. Staff is awesome (had a lovely chat with the lady at the register) and they come out fresh and delicious. I look forward to my next visit!

Whenever I'm downtown on the weekends Penelope's Creperie is a must stop. The wait is usually long, but it is oh so worth it. I've tried several crepes but the s'mores crepe is my absolute favorite. Big enough to satisfy a junk food craving but not big enough to ruin dinner. Be careful though, it's sticky! And don't attempt to use a fork and knife. Just pick it up and eat it.

Reminiscent of a farmers stand in an open-air market, Penelope's Creperie offers Mediterranean inspired crepes along with parfaits and drinks. I stopped at the Downtown Market this past Sunday, thinking I was coming in for tacos, but I took an abrupt turn to this creperie to check out what they offer. Not sure how large the crepes were going to be, I ordered two baklava inspired plates and figured I'd split one with my husband and keep the other for myself. Their stand is on the small side with room for only two people to make the food so it allowed me to see the time and attention that goes into each dish. I watched as they meticulously babied my crepe using fresh, colorful ingredients, lie walnuts, honey, cinnamon, and pistachios. They used a slow steady hand as not to tear the thin pancake-like crepe. Topped with homemade whipped cream, my baklava crepe was a sweet and savory treat that filled me up all day. I can't wait to taste another one of their creations on my next trip!

While the portions are...not that big, the crepes are great! I stopped in to try the Greek crepe and was not disappointed! The fresh veggies were crisp, and the crepe itself wasn't too "eggy" (something I hate). I am excited to go back and try, pretty much, one of each!

Penelope's is a crepe booth inside Downtown market. I had the NY famous crepe here - salmon, cream cheese, arugula, mustard, olive oil. It tasted great but just a bit too salty. The mustard does a good job of mimicking the caper flavor you'd usually find when eating this sort of salmon lox combination. A little less mustard would be perfect! It was difficult cutting the crepe with the plastic fork and knife and the foam plate but certainly not impossible - you could eat it cone style and then you'd have no problem at all. I'd love to try their other offerings. Other than savory crepes they have sweet crepes, parfaits, and an assortment of packaged Greek goodies.

Pretty good food but a little on the pricey side. If it wasn't for being a little expensive, I would've rated 5 because the types of crepes they sell are the bomb! I love both the savory and sweet ones. You can also build your own crepe! If you're not in the mood for crepes, you can get a parfait, or any other sweet snack!

The NY Famous made me rethink crepes as breakfast food. Excellent savory crepe made with fresh ingredients. You can eat by hand which makes it perfect for the market.
